This intuitive screen layout of GoldWave helps beginner audio editors quickly adapt to the program.

📈 How to Zoom In and Out of Waveforms: The Start of Precise Audio Editing!
When editing recorded audio, zooming in and out of waveforms is a frequently required task.
GoldWave allows for waveform zoom in/out through various methods, aiding in precise editing.
- Mouse Wheel: Scrolling the mouse wheel up zooms in, and scrolling down zooms out. The zoom action is centered around the mouse cursor’s position.
- In/Out Icons:
- ‘In(+)’ Button: Zooms in on the waveform centered on the screen.
- ‘Out(-)’ Button: Zooms out of the waveform.
- All Icon: Clicking the ‘All(X)’ icon scales the entire waveform to fit the screen, allowing you to see it all at once.

- Vertical Zoom: By holding the ‘Ctrl’ key and moving the mouse wheel, you can also zoom in/out vertically on the waveform.
These functions are extremely useful for detailed editing of specific sounds or for quickly reviewing the overall audio flow.
✂️ Selecting an Area to Edit: Precisely Edit Only the Desired Part!
To edit specific sections of recorded audio, you must first select the desired range.
In GoldWave, you can select areas using the following method:
- Mouse Drag: Click and drag your mouse from the starting point of the audio to the desired end point; the selected area will be highlighted in blue.

Only the selected portion will be affected by GoldWave’s editing functions.
Helpful Icon Functions:
- Sel All: Selects the entire audio file at once.
- Prev: Reverts to the previous selection state.
- Sel: Zooms in on the selected segment to display it magnified on the screen.

The selected area’s boundaries can be adjusted by clicking them with the mouse, allowing for flexible editing.
📊 Using the Mini Waveform Window at the Bottom: Key to Understanding the Overall Flow!
At the bottom of the GoldWave screen, there is a mini waveform window that displays the entire audio file in a reduced form.
This window is very useful during audio editing tasks.
- Current Position Check: You can easily see where the currently magnified portion is located within the entire audio.
- Selectable Area: You can also directly select areas within the mini waveform window, which is convenient.
Using this function allows for detailed editing while simultaneously keeping track of the overall audio flow.
⏱️ Selecting by Specifying Time: Precise Editing Down to the Second!
When you need to select an editing segment with exact time specifications, you can use the Set icon (numbered icon).
- Click Set Icon: Clicking the Set icon opens a settings window.
- Enter Time: By entering the start and end times in the ‘Time based range’ field, the corresponding time segment will be precisely selected.
This function is particularly useful when precise audio editing down to the second is required, enabling you to leverage GoldWave’s accurate editing capabilities.

🎛️ Selecting Sound by Channel: The Beginning of Multichannel Audio Editing!
If your recorded file is stereo or has more than 4 channels, GoldWave offers a powerful feature that allows you to edit by individual channels.
For instance, you can edit only the left (Channel 1) or select only the right channel.
- Unchecking the box on the left will exclude that channel from the editing target.
- Clicking on the channel number (1, 2, etc.) will select only that specific channel as the editing target.
This function is highly useful when using more than one microphone or when you need to handle left and right audio separately, opening up possibilities for professional audio editing.
