By thoroughly understanding and utilizing these GoldWave playback and mouse functions, you can significantly boost your editing speed and achieve more precise audio edits.

⏯️ Starting and Stopping Playback: The Basics of Audio Review!

When reviewing recorded audio files or performing edits, the playback function is used very frequently.

Let’s learn the most basic methods for playing and stopping audio in GoldWave.

  • Using the Space Key: Pressing the Spacebar on your keyboard starts playback, and pressing it again stops it. This key toggles between play and pause.
  • Ctrl + Mouse Click: Place the mouse cursor at your desired position, hold down the Ctrl key, and click; playback will start from that specific point.

This method is extremely useful when you need to quickly listen to a specific segment during audio editing and is essential for efficient audio editing using GoldWave.

⚙️ Functions of Playback-Related Icons: Utilizing Various Playback Options!

GoldWave features various playback-related icons, each with a different role.

By using these icons appropriately for the situation, you can achieve fast and accurate playback.

  • ▶ Icon: Plays the entire audio file from beginning to end.
  • {▶} Icon: Plays from the beginning to the end of the currently selected area. This is particularly useful when repeatedly listening to a specific segment during audio editing.
  • ▶| Icon: Plays from the current position of the playback bar until the end of the file.

Utilizing these functions according to the situation allows for more flexible playback control in your audio editing with GoldWave.

The three “playback” icons on the left side of the third row of icons at the top of the screen are indicated by red squares.

🔄 Relationship Between Selection and Playback: Efficient Listening for Audio Editing!

In GoldWave, the playback function can behave differently depending on the presence and starting position of a selection area.

Understanding this relationship allows you to effectively listen to only the desired parts during audio editing.

  • If you start playback before a selected area, it will automatically stop at the end of the selected area. This function is convenient for reviewing specific sections.
  • If you start playback after a selected area, it will play until the end of the file.

Knowing this is very useful when you need to repeatedly listen to or review specific audio parts in GoldWave.

⏸️ Difference Between Pause and Stop: Smart Playback Control in GoldWave!

GoldWave allows you to distinguish between Pause and Stop.

Understanding the difference between these two functions enables more precise control over your audio editing workflow.

  • Pause: Temporarily halts playback, and when resumed, it continues from that exact point. This is useful for short checks or when you need to briefly attend to other tasks.
  • Stop: Completely halts playback, and when resumed, it starts from the beginning of the file. This is suitable for reviewing the overall flow or when starting a new editing task.

When you want to repeatedly listen to specific parts of your audio recording, use the Pause function.

When you want to listen to the entire thing again, use the Stop function.

The third row of icons at the top of the screen, the “Pause” and “Stop” icons, are indicated by red squares.

📈 Visual Information in the Control Window: Audio Status at a Glance!

GoldWave’s Control Window features small display areas that visually present time and volume.

This information is incredibly helpful for quickly grasping the audio recording or playback status.

  • Time Display: Precisely shows the current time position of the playing audio.
  • Volume Display: Shows the real-time movement of the audio’s volume level. It’s crucial to ensure the volume doesn’t exceed the red line, which prevents clipping (sound distortion).

Utilizing this visual information allows you to quickly identify and address issues during audio editing with GoldWave.

The area at the top of the screen that displays the “Time” and “Volume” is indicated by a red square.

🖥️ Control Window Separation and Visualization Effects: Advanced Audio Analysis!

GoldWave’s Control Window might appear separated from the main window upon initial launch.

In this state, you can move it to your desired location or merge it back with the main window.

  • Advantage of Separated State: In a separated state, the visualization effects that display high, mid, and low frequencies appear more detailed. This helps in understanding the frequency characteristics of the audio.
  • Tip for Beginners: However, for beginners or those new to the software, it might be more convenient to merge the two windows until they become more familiar with GoldWave.

This flexible use of the Control Window aids in performing various audio editing tasks with GoldWave.

The mouse cursor is pointing to the icon to the left of the time information in the third row of icons at the top of the screen. The tag “Show the Control window” is visible.

🎚️ Playback Environment Settings: Building a Personalized Listening Environment!

GoldWave’s Control Window allows for precise adjustment of the preview playback environment.

These functions enable you to set up an audio playback environment optimized for your personal needs.

  • Volume: Adjusts the overall loudness of the audio.
  • Balance: Adjusts the ratio of left/right channel sound. This is particularly useful when using headphones, helping in checking spatial audio.
  • Speed: Allows you to adjust the playback speed of the audio. Note that this setting does not affect the actual file, making it ideal for quick content review or practice.

These functions are highly useful for reviewing audio before editing or for listening during practice, contributing to efficient audio work with GoldWave.

The red rectangle is pointing to the section at the top of the separate Control window where you can adjust the “Volume,” “Balance,” and “Speed.”

🖱️ Right-Click Functionality: An Auxiliary Editing Tool!

When you right-click on the GoldWave editing screen, frequently used functions appear.

Most of these functions are also available via icons at the top or through keyboard shortcuts.

Therefore, the right-click menu serves as an auxiliary editing tool, helping to streamline your workflow.
