🆕 Creating New Files: First Steps for GoldWave Recording!
Before starting a new audio recording or inserting other sources onto a blank track in GoldWave, you need to create a new audio file.
Clicking the ‘New’ icon at the top will open a window for creating a new file.
- Number of channels: Generally, set to Mono (1 channel) or Stereo (2 channels).
- Sampling rate: Using 44100Hz or 48000Hz is sufficient for general voice recording.
- Initial file length: The default value is 1 minute, but you can specify the length as needed.
Additionally, the ‘Presets’ option allows you to select pre-defined settings, which is convenient for GoldWave beginners.
For example, selecting an option like ‘AM Radio, mono, 5 minutes‘ automatically applies those settings.

📂 Open and Save Audio Files: Fundamentals of the Editing Workflow!
To begin audio editing tasks, you need to load existing audio files, and once your work is complete, you must save them.
GoldWave allows you to open and save files using the following methods:
- Open: This icon allows you to open previously saved audio files.
- Drag & Drop: Drag a file from your computer with the mouse and drop it onto the GoldWave window; the file will open instantly.
- Save: Used to save your completed edited file.
To prevent data loss, it is essential to open your file before starting work and to save it diligently after your work is done.

↩️ Undo and Redo: The Ace Up Your Sleeve for Editing Mistakes!
Small and large mistakes can occur during audio editing.
GoldWave offers ‘Undo’ and ‘Redo’ functions that allow you to easily revert such mistakes, ensuring a stable editing environment.
- Undo: Reverts the most recently performed action.
- Redo: Reapplies an action that was previously undone.
These two functions are extremely useful when you make mistakes during audio editing tasks and can be used repeatedly, increasing the flexibility of GoldWave editing.

✂️ Cut, Delete, Copy, and Paste: Essential Basics of Audio Editing!
These are the most fundamental functions for precisely manipulating audio files in GoldWave.
Let’s explore how to cut, copy, paste specific sections, and delete unnecessary parts.
- Cut: Cuts the selected portion and simultaneously saves it to the clipboard. Use this when moving content or pasting it elsewhere.
- Copy: Duplicates the selected segment, leaving the original intact.
- Paste: Inserts the copied or cut content at the desired location. Pasting occurs either at the cursor’s position or the start of a selected area, so always double-check your placement.
- Delete: Permanently removes the selected segment.
Skillfully utilizing these functions allows you to accurately extract and combine necessary parts when editing audio with GoldWave.

🔄 Replace and Save as New File: Flexibility in Audio Management!
GoldWave provides useful functions to replace specific parts of an audio file or save only desired sections as separate files.
- New: Allows you to extract only the selected portion and save it as a new, separate file. This is similar to the ‘Save Selection As…’ function and is useful for extracting specific clips from an original file for separate storage or editing.
- Repl: Overwrites the selected segment with the content from the clipboard.
These functions are highly valuable when you want to edit or store specific sections separately during audio editing, showcasing GoldWave’s powerful file management capabilities.
