🚀 GoldWave: Equalizer Master Bringing Sound to Life!
Hello! This is ‘PHconlab’.
In our last session, we explored how to perfectly control the dynamic range of audio content using GoldWave’s File Merging function and advanced Compressor usage.
Now, it’s time for a delicate finishing touch in high-quality audio content creation: an in-depth look at effectively utilizing the Equalizer function to adjust audio tone and improve sound quality.
Mastering GoldWave’s Equalizer function allows you to freely adjust the frequency bands of recorded sound, creating clearer and richer audio quality.
Through this post, master all the know-how of the Equalizer with GoldWave to further advance your audio production skills!
🎶 What is an Equalizer?: Unveiling the Secret of Sound Tone!
An Equalizer is a function that adjusts the frequency bands of audio.
Sound consists of low, mid, and high frequencies, and the Equalizer allows you to strengthen or weaken each of these areas.
In GoldWave, the Equalizer adjustment window opens by clicking the ‘three vertical bars‘ icon.
Role of Each Bar:
-
- Left Bars: Represent the low-frequency range.
- Middle Bars: Represent the mid-frequency range.
- Right Bars: Represent the high-frequency range.
-
Adjustment Method:
Raising each bar amplifies that frequency band, while lowering it reduces it.
Through this Equalizer, you can finely adjust the timbre of your audio.

📈 Recommend Presets over Direct Adjustment: Easy Equalizer Use for Beginners!
The Equalizer is a professional sound adjustment tool, so for GoldWave beginners or novices, using Presets (pre-configured settings) is much more efficient than adjusting settings manually.
6 Useful Presets to Remember:
-
- Boost bass: Amplifies low frequencies.
- Boost mid: Amplifies mid frequencies.
- Boost treble: Amplifies high frequencies.
- Reduce bass: Reduces low frequencies.
- Reduce mid: Reduces mid frequencies.
- Reduce treble: Reduces high frequencies.
For example, if your voice sounds too low and muddy, try applying ‘Reduce bass’.
You should notice the voice becoming clearer.

📊 What is Parametric EQ?: The World of More Detailed Sound Adjustment!
Parametric EQ is a function that allows for even more precise sound adjustment than a standard Equalizer.
Clicking this function opens a window with a single diamond point, which you can move with your mouse to adjust the sound.
- Vertical Axis (dB): Represents sound intensity (up = amplification, down = reduction).
- Horizontal Axis (Hz): Represents the frequency range (left = low frequencies, right = high frequencies).
For example, moving the diamond point to the lower-left will significantly reduce a specific low-frequency range, while moving it to the upper-right will amplify a specific high-frequency range, allowing for precise frequency control.
- Width Setting: Adjusting the ‘Width’ at the bottom allows you to narrowly adjust a single area or broadly adjust multiple areas. A higher value creates a smoother, more gradual curve.
- Adding Bands: The ‘Band’ option on the right allows you to increase or decrease the number of adjustable diamond points. You can set up to 10 points, and each point affects a different frequency.
This function is primarily used by professional sound editors, but GoldWave beginners can also utilize it by selecting ’10 band’ or ‘5 band’ presets and making slight adjustments.

⚠️ Be Careful Not to Overuse: Smart Equalizer Usage!
The Equalizer function is very convenient and powerful, but overuse or excessive application can lead to a mechanical-sounding degradation of sound quality.
Especially if the basic recording quality is already good, it’s recommended to minimize EQ adjustments.
As such, when used correctly, the Equalizer is a function that can significantly help improve voice tone and create clearer and richer sound.
