🚀 GoldWave: Infusing Unique Character into Your Audio Content!

Hello! This is ‘PHconlab’.

In our last session, we explored GoldWave’s techniques for producing spatiality and dimensionality in audio.

Now, it’s time to fully embrace the creative freedom of high-quality audio content creation.

This involves adjusting the speed and pitch of sound and adding intriguing special effects using GoldWave’s various audio transformation effects.

Time (speed) and Pitch (height) adjustments, Censor (beep sound), Mechanize (robot sound), Reverse (reverse sound), Reduce Vocals (reduce voice), and Flanger (chorus/special effects), allow you to produce recorded sounds that are more diverse and original.

Through this post, learn the audio transformation know-how with GoldWave to further advance your audio production skills!

⏱️ Adjusting Audio Speed (Time): Freely Manipulating Audio Length!

Clicking GoldWave’s Time icon opens a window where you can adjust the speed of your audio faster or slower.

This is useful for controlling the length of specific segments in your audio content or for adding emphasis.

  • Change (%): Adjusts the audio speed by percentage. Increasing the value makes the sound faster and shortens the file length. Decreasing the value makes the sound slower and lengthens the file length.
  • Length (s): You can also adjust the speed by directly entering the file length in seconds. Shortening the length increases speed, and lengthening it decreases speed.

Tip: If you want to change only the speed while keeping the tone intact, click the ‘Similarity’ tab at the bottom and click ‘OK’ without further settings. This way, only the speed changes while the voice pitch remains the same, allowing for natural audio transformation.

Clicking on the ‘Time’ icon in the second row of icons at the top of the screen. Clicking on the Similarity tab in the center of the window.

🎼 Adjusting Audio Pitch (Pitch): Freely Changing Vocal Tone!

Clicking GoldWave’s Pitch icon opens a window where you can adjust the pitch of your audio.

This is useful for altering the tone of voice or changing the key of music.

  • Scale (%): Adjusts the overall pitch by percentage.
  • Semitone: Adjusts the pitch by a half-step per increment. This is similar to the “1 key, 2 key” concept in karaoke.
  • Fine tune: This option allows for even more precise pitch adjustment, enabling subtle tuning between semitones.

Tip: Adjusting pitch can also affect speed. After adjusting the pitch, you can use the ‘Time’ icon to revert the file length to its original state and use the ‘Similarity’ tab to preserve the tone while correcting the speed.

Clicking the ‘Pitch’ icon in the second row of icons at the top of the screen. The red square boxes are pointing to the settings in the window.

🤫 Reducing Silent Sections (Silence Reduction): Making Audio More Concise!

The Silence Reduction function automatically shortens unnecessarily long silent segments in audio files.

This is useful for removing lengthy silences that interrupt the listening flow in voice-centric content like podcasts or audiobooks.

  • Silence threshold: Sets the volume level at which sound is considered silent.
  • Duration: Means that only silences longer than the set time will be reduced.
  • Reduce to (%): Sets the percentage by which the selected silent segment will be reduced.
  • Maximum length: Restricts the reduced silent segment from exceeding this setting.

This function is suitable for organizing silent segments throughout the entire file, while manual editing is recommended for correcting only one or two specific spots.

This is the view after clicking the ‘Silence Reduction’ icon in the second row of icons at the top of the screen. The settings in the window are circled with red square boxes.

🚨 Inserting a Beep Sound (Censor): Effectively Hiding Specific Content!

This function allows you to insert a ‘beep’ sound, often used in broadcasting to censor expletives.

In GoldWave, you can select a desired segment and then click the Censor icon to choose from various tones and effects of beep sounds.

  • Censor Type: Options like ‘High tone’, ‘Siren’, and ‘Buzz’ are available, so you can choose the one that fits the situation.

This is the screen after clicking the ‘Censor’ icon in the second row of icons at the top of the screen. The Censor type at the top of the window is selected as ‘High tone’.

🤖 Creating Robotic Voice (Mechanize): Fun Voice Transformation!

Clicking the Mechanize icon allows you to transform sound to make it sound robotic.

This is great for voice transformation content or scenes requiring special effects.

  • Using Presets: It’s more convenient to select a Preset and preview it before applying, rather than manually setting values.

Clicking the ‘Mechanize’ icon in the second row of icons at the top of the screen. The red square box is pointing to the ‘Presets’ option at the bottom of the window.

⏪ Reversing Sound (Reverse): Unique Audio Effect Production!

Clicking the Reverse icon allows you to make the selected sound play backward.

You can create a very unique special effect where the voice plays in reverse, similar to playing a tape backward.

This is the screen after clicking the ‘Reverse’ icon in the second row of icons at the top of the screen.

🎤 Reducing Vocals (Reduce Vocals): Creating Instrumentals Without Vocals!

This function is used when you want to reduce only the vocal part in a file containing both music and vocals.

GoldWave’s Reduce Vocals function is useful when vocal removal is needed.

  • Effect: Applying the Presets as they are won’t completely eliminate the vocals, but it effectively reduces most vocal elements.

This is the screen after clicking the ‘Reduce Vocals’ icon in the second row of icons at the top of the screen.

🎶 Adding Chorus or Other Effects (Flanger): Adding Vibrancy and Depth to Audio!

Flanger provides various special effects.

In GoldWave, after clicking the Flanger icon, you can select and apply desired effects from Presets such as ‘Chorus 1’, ‘Chorus 3’, ‘Jet Plane’, and more.

  • Usage: This function can add vibrancy to a monotonous voice and can be applied in various ways for scenes requiring sound effects.

This is what it looks like when you click the ‘Flanger’ icon in the second row of icons at the top of the screen. The 'Presets' option at the bottom of the window is hovering over the red square box.
