PHCONLAB Expression Activity Games
Express with Sound
About the Express with Sound
Choose an animal or object sound, then express and guess the emotion card using that sound. Learners explore different sounds they can make and adjust pitch, volume, speed, and rhythm to match each emotion.
Training Benefits
This activity connects sound imitation with emotion vocabulary. Learners experience how the same emotion can be communicated differently through pitch, volume, speed, and rhythm.
View Detailed Instructions
- On the first screen, choose Animal Sounds, Object Sounds, or All Sounds. If needed, use Edit Sounds to add or change sound prompts for the class topic.
- Select Shuffle Sounds, then have a participant choose a number to reveal the sound prompt for the team.
- Groups of 3 to 5 learners are recommended. Each group can use one shared sound, or each participant can use a different sound.
- Select Next to move to the Express with Sound screen, then choose the game time and prompt count. If needed, use Edit Emotion Cards to add or change emotion prompts.
- By default, 30 emotion prompts are shuffled randomly. During continuous play, prompts from previous rounds are excluded until the remaining prompts are fewer than the selected prompt count, then the set is shuffled again.
- Participants take turns expressing the emotion card with the animal or object sound chosen by the group. Encourage changes in pitch, volume, speed, and rhythm.
- The same team or the other team guesses the emotion. The instructor uses Correct and Pass to guide the round.
- The team with more correct answers wins. If the correct count is tied, the team with the shorter elapsed time may win.
- After the activity, discuss which sounds communicated the emotions clearly and how the same sound changed across different emotions.
