PHCONLAB Expression Activity Games

Decibel Game

About the Decibel Game

Measure your average voice level for the first 10 seconds, then sustain your voice without dropping below that baseline.

Training Benefits

Build the ability to release your breath fully while sustaining a steady voice to the end. Rather than simply speaking loudly, this activity focuses on controlling breath pressure and carrying your voice consistently using your own average voice level as the baseline.

View Detailed Instructions

  1. Select Measure Baseline to grant microphone access.
  2. When prompted, make a clear, continuous sound for 10 seconds. Your average voice level during these 10 seconds becomes your baseline.
  3. You may read a sentence, but beginners are encouraged to sustain an “Ah” sound because it is easier to keep steady.
  4. When measurement is complete, your average voice level appears and the second start button becomes available.
  5. During the game, sustain your voice for as long as possible without dropping below the measured baseline.
  6. The game ends if your voice remains below the baseline briefly, and your time above the baseline is displayed.
  7. After the game ends, select Restart to measure a new baseline, or Continue to try again with the existing average voice level.
  8. Before focusing on the final time, consider whether your voice carried clearly to the end and whether tension developed in your throat.
